Valentine's Day - What a Waste

Who: Jacob, Corvus, and others, open
Where: Lower commons
When: Thursday, after dinner

Status: Completed
Summary: A group of boys alone in the lower commons decide to try to play some games. Autumn makes a brief appearance, but decides to leave when they break out the exploding snap cards. Kaden inadvertently comes out to Corvus while they're walking to go get the aforementioned snap cards. Logan walks Autumn to the library, and Autumn decides she likes the Beauxbatons champion better than the Durmstrang one. When Alex and Kaden engage in a game of chess with the stipulation that the loser has to preform a dare, Alex has to run to the library in his boxers. Upon their return, Kaden offers to complete Alex's proposed dare for him, and he kisses Corvus before the party breaks up and the boys retreat to their given rooms.

Jake kind of wondered how much of a refuge the lower commons would actually be. How many of the couples, really, were going to actually pay attention to the signs on the door and in the common rooms?

He'd been pleased to see the sign - he was kind of getting really sick of that French couple that was always snogging in their common room. Didn't they have anything better to do?

Either way, he made his way in with a stack of books after dinner. He noticed a few other people there, and he announced: "you all damn well better be single," before he sat down on one of the couches.

"Why?" Corvus inquired from where he was sprawled across an armchair. "You looking for some lovin' Flint?" He grinned and waggled his brows at Jacob.

"Not from you, Corner," Jake shot back, but he grinned, too. He'd always thought that Corvus should've been a Slytherin, but ... well, he was a 'puff. Jake still thought he was an okay guy. "But speaking of lovin', you haven't noticed anyone snogging in here, have you?"

"I haven't been looking," Corvus quipped with a grin. "But so far, no."

"Good," Jake decided, settling in to do some homework. Or ... think about doing homework, anyway.

"Oh...OH!" It took Kaden a moment to realize what the whole thing implied. "Well...that's cool. Don't worry, I'm not homophobic...in fact, it'd be rather hypocritical of me to treat you different. I won't tell anyone, though." He gave Corvus a reassuring smile. Pondering if he should 'out' himself to the boy, they reached the door.

After answering the question, Kaden turned to Corvus, "I'll be right back," and passed through the door. Kaden rushed to his room and dumped out his trunk, rather than search it properly. He knew that the deck of "exploding snap" was on the bottom somewhere...and he was right. "Awesome," he muttered to himself.

After tossing everything back into his trunk, he made his way back out to the meet up with Corvus.
Cor laughed, then shrugged. "Doesn't matter if you out me or not. Landon already did, back over break," he gestured over his shoulder as if somehow time was literally behind them.

Once Kaden was inside, Corvus entertained himself by looking around the hall, his hands shoved into his pockets. He was studying one of the paintings when Kaden came back out, and Corvus smiled to him. "Ready?"

After all this, it would amuse him if the gang in the room had decided on something else to play.
"Yeah, I'm ready." Kaden fell silent, before saying, "Sorry that you got outed. It must have sucked..." then before he could stop himself, he continued, "I don't know how I'd deal if someone outed me." Kaden's eyes went wide, and he covered his mouth, mentally cursing his stupidity.
Cor grinned over to him. "Guess the 'puffs don't have as big a lead as I thought," he said, then realized that wouldn't make sense, so he waved one hand dismissively. "Riley and I were ... saying ours was the gayest house."

He shrugged again as he turned back toward the lower commons. "I won't tell," he said. "But it's not that bad. You know. If people know. Then people that you'd be interested in that are interested in you..." his brow furrowed as he paused, wondering if that made any sense at all. "Well, you know. It gets the girls off your back."

Corvus, however, was unaccustomed to having any sort of empathy or compassion, and trying to be a helpful, concerned being went against his nature (sort of), so he simply sniffed, shrugged, and kind of grinned.
"Only one other person knows, and that's Alex. Maybe that's why I like hanging out with him. Since he doesn't have any problems with who I really am."

He let out a breath of relief. Corvus seemed like he could be trusted. "I don't like anyone, so it doesn't matter. Also, I'm not social enough for the girls to take notice in me...which is fine by me."

"So, is there anyone who has given you trouble since you've been outed?"
Corvus shook his head. "No one gave me any grief before this...and that hasn't changed." He walked along in thoughtful silence before continuing. "Besides, I think Tristan kind of ... you know, carved that path. He's out, very, very loudly. And a werewolf. I mean, if people here can ... accept a gay werewolf, what're normal gay guys next to that, right?"
A gay werewolf? Kaden had no idea who this Tristan guy was, but kind of admired him, to a small degree. "Wow...now that is something you don't hear everyday," he replied with a smile. He gave a small chuckle, and rubbed the back of his neck. "I guess I've been worrying about nothing then."
Cor grinned, and kind of shrugged. "It might be different. I mean, for guys who aren't already known by the whole school. Not that I think anyone here would try to beat us up or hex us for it or anything, but..." he shrugged again. "I haven't had any trouble." He paused. "Or any offers for dates, so I guess not as many people read their journals as I thought did." He grinned at that.
"I don't read the journals, or write in them. Kind of a waste of time if you ask me." He laughed Corvus' "date" comment. "If you don't mind my asking, is there anyone that you would like to date? Maybe you should take the offensive, and not wait for someone to ask you out."
Corvus shook his head, then shrugged a little. "Not really. I mean, I guess I'm still kind of new to the whole concept of ... dating guys. I didn't really think much about it before. I guess I'm not real interested in dating, either." He shook his head, working his hands deeper into his pockets. "I'm still ... um. Kind of scoping all my options, I guess."
"There is nothing wrong with that," said Kaden. He then noticed that they were back to the commons. "Wow, the walk back seemed shorter. Think that anyone is hurt...yet?" He then pushed the door open.
"I'm sure not. I mean ... Autumn was there," Corvus pointed out as he stepped into the relatively quiet lower commons. "We've returned!" he declared, lifting his arms in a gesture of victory.

"Took you long enough, Corner," Jake quipped, a grin curving his own lips.
Logan leaned back in his seat and turned his head at the announcement. "Zat did take a bit, but at least we now 'ave somezing to do." He hadn't played anything besides quidditch, so it would prove to be interesting.

Once Kaden was close enough, he handed the deck to Alex. "See...brand new...never opened." He flashed Alex a smile, and glanced around at the others.
"Bite it, Flint," Corvus replied before he crossed over to flop down on his couch.

Alex grinned over to Kaden. "Excellent." He glanced over to Autumn. "Last chance," he warned her, brows waggling a little.

She shook her head, but if they were seriously going to play, she'd suck it up and head to the library. And it looked like they were going to. No, thanks.

Standing up, she headed toward the door. "Good luck with your ... party," she replied, offering a wave before she started out.

"Aw, you guys, you scared her off," Jake teased them before he moved to clear a spot on the floor. Sure, you could play on a table, but playing on the floor let you throw the cards down harder.
Logan pondered things for a moment. He then got up and called after Autumn, "Want some company? I'm not much for playing this sort of game." He got up, hoping that she would allow him to join her.

Kaden took a seat near Alex, and just watched and waited.
